For the first time at Oshkosh, CaribbeanFlyingAdventures.com (CFA) is helping pilots obtain permits to fly their planes over Cuba. It is legal and safe. Fly straight south from Marathon Key and wing your way over the renowned Varadero Beach resort, the legendary Bay of Pigs and the popular Cayo Largo del Sur resort island off the south coast.
Obtaining a permit is easy and inexpensive. Receive a free roundtrip permit with an annual $39.95 membership in the Caribbean Flying Adventures’ online Pilot’s Guide for the Bahamas and Caribbean. Additional permits throughout the year are only $40. Pilots can request permits, make payments and receive instant invoices on-line in a seamless, pilot friendly, hassle free process. You will receive your permit same day or next day. To qualify for this low rate, the flight must be for “pleasure” with the aircraft owner on board. All other flights are charged a commercial/business rate of $325 roundtrip. Last minute permits can be issued overnight and on weekends for an additional fee. Pilots may depart anytime during the 24 hour permit period. CFA can also provide a three day departure window each way for added flexibility at no additional cost for pleasure flights.
Cuba requires all aircraft to fly IFR while in their airspace. Cuban ATC is friendly, professional and English speaking. Minimum altitude when crossing Cuba is 8,000 ft. Pilots must stay on published north-south airways. There are numerous airways for direct flights to Jamaica, The Caymans Islands, and Central and South America.
