BERINGER Helps Fast Airplanes Slow Down at Reno
In 2012, the Sport Class saw two examples of what Beringer Wheels & Brakes can do: slow down some of the fastest civilian aircraft in the sky.

“We needed a really small, really powerful and reliable brake for Sweet Dreams,” said Sport Class president and Reno racer Lee Behel, who campaigned the one-off, Chevy V-8-powered machine. “Beringer had the only brakes that could do that job and still fit in the airplane. They were wonderful to work with; they gave us exactly what we needed.”

Sweet Dreams is a 1500-pound single-seat design from the pencil of George Periera; it is the fastest wood-construction racer in the world, qualifying in September at over 360mph, its first time officially on the clocks. Behel owns the plane; he flies in both Sport and the Jet classes.

In the same hangar was the Lancair Legacy of Bob Wolstenholme, the President and CEO of Lancair International. Stopping the boss’s machine? Beringer wheels & brakes. Another Wolstenholme racer was in the static area at Reno: a new development on the Lancair Legacy. Arriving too late for the 2012 contest, watch for it in 2013 – on Beringer Wheels & Brakes.

Behel took fourth place in the Gold race; Wolstenholme earned second in Silver. But that wasn’t the end of Beringer at Reno, 2012. The Lancair president had a secret weapon, a very special Lancair Legacy that was just a couple weeks short of enough development to make the race. This ultra-trick machine was also riding on Beringer Wheels & Brakes. In 2013, we’ll see how this newest creation does in the heat of battle.
